My Body Is A Painting

My Body Is A Painting

My fingers are calloused from playing the guitar
and my forehead has creases from thinking to hard
I’ve got scars on my knees from the playground slide
But I don’t think that I should really mind

Chorus:
because these things are not flaws that I hide behind
But reflections of the beauty I carry inside
and I swear I won’t live my life in fear
Because without all these scars all I have are years
And My body is a painting of the life I’ve lived

I have way too many wrinkles at such a young age
from 21 years of smiling everyday
and I remember his laughter from the bruise on my arm
I can’t say my choices don’t do me any harm

Chorus

The stretch marks on my body tell the story of my growth
because these hips and these breasts as a woman I own
and I won’t be ashamed of the way I feel
because I’d rather not be if I can’t be real

Chorus

I’ve walked so far on these calloused feet
Just picking up memories I find on the street
And I’ve earned all these freckles from my beach bummin’ days
Cuz I’m not afraid of livin’ this way

Chorus
